Description
This is a tough one to describe without sounding like bragging, but it is an incredible guitar with specs to match. First things first, the top and the back are carved AAAA-grade Flame Maple, which is kind of nuts. The weight, at barely 8 pounds (8 lbs. 3 ozs. to be precise) is almost unheard of in a Les Paul. This beauty also has an very Ebony fretboard and the luxury appointments include 5-ply binding, mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays exclusive to the Supreme, gold hardware, including a gold truss rod cover and large side jack plate. It is not just show-stopping good looks, but tone yo match with Gibson’s outstanding Alnico II 490R (Neck) and 498T (Bridge) Humbuckers.
This is far from the Supreme’s of today, re-issued in 2023 with only AAA tops and NO flame backs, a simple headstock inlay with NO abalone, NO gold truss cover, NO gold side jack plate. To many, it stripped away the things that made a Supreme a Supreme, but to each his or her own.
The condition of the 2006 model is excellent, especially for a 20-year-old guitar. There is very light playwear, but nothing through the paint. We take photos inside under standard lighting and outside in sunlight and are always happy to send more images upon request and are always happy to answer any questions. The frets look great and the fretboard looks amazing. The original hardshell shrouded case is in good, but not great condition. The interior is clean, but the shroud needs to be reattached. One of the five straplocks is off (it is inside the case) and either needs to be reattached or can be left off. The other four latches hold the case securely closed. The guitar comes with the signed Gibson checklist and Owner’s Manual.
